iDoo#4 / Why does light change your life? How to use it?

Why ?

The way you decide to use lighting in your home has an impact at different levels. We could talk about mood first. Mood lighting uses different tones and colors of light, as well as different levels of brightness, with the aim of creating atmosphere in a room.  In many cases it uses soft, warm lights to induce a feeling of calm and relaxation, but at the opposite end of the spectrum it can also be used to provide a lively and invigorating effect.

It also makes a real difference on the room size. The lighter a space is, the larger it seems to be. A study shows that when you visit an apartment with huge windows, it automatically seems gigantic. You get this feeling because the place is extremely bright (of course it helps if you have an unobstructed view). This feeling comes directly from the sunlight, but it also comes from the color of your walls and decoration. White walls will reflect the light much more than any other colors, and will give you this spacious effect.

Now, light has another effect:

“People need exposure to light because sunlight provides ultraviolet B (UBV) rays that help the body produce vitamin D. Vitamin D helps balance the calcium that the body needs in order to maintain healthy bones and teeth. Sunlight and light generally also help prevent and treat depression and sadness in people of all ages. The brain begins producing the mood-influencing chemical upon first exposure to light in the morning. To treat or prevent sadness or depression, increase the amount of light a person is exposed to during daytime hours.»
